At the heart of America’s small business landscape are stories of courage, resilience, and relentless service — stories like that of Dr. Vy Truong, Pharm.D, CEO and Founder of Kentucky Pharmacy at Harbor House. On May 15, 2025, Dr. Truong was honored with the JFCS Mosaic Award for Compassion, a powerful recognition of her unwavering commitment to immigrant health access, patient-centered care, and the communities she serves across Kentucky and beyond.
As a proud supporter and incubator of immigrant-owned businesses, New American Business Association Inc. (NABA) celebrates Dr. Truong as a model of excellence — not only in the pharmacy profession but in what it means to lead with heart.
From Humble Beginnings to Healthcare Leadership
Dr. Truong arrived in the United States from Vietnam at age 17 with limited English and a fierce determination to succeed. While studying at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS), she commuted daily by train from Randolph, MA to downtown Boston — often in sub-zero temperatures, fearful, alone, and burdened by language and cultural challenges.
And yet, she persisted — working weekends at Walgreens throughout her studies, where she mastered legacy pharmacy systems and was mentored into a leadership path that would define her future.
The Impact Today
Now a licensed pharmacist in Kentucky, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Indiana, Dr. Truong leads a high-impact, multilingual pharmacy operation that:
- Has filled between 312,000 to 1.6 million prescriptions
- Engaged with over 39,000 to 54,600 patients face-to-face
- Administered thousands of vaccines
- Delivered thousands of prescriptions personally
- Served patients with limited English, financial hardship, or disability — often without recognition
She also serves as a preceptor for the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and Sullivan University College of Pharmacy, mentoring the next generation of healthcare leaders through direct, real-world training.
A Leader Beyond the Counter
What makes Dr. Truong’s story remarkable is not just her professional achievement, but the spirit of quiet leadership she brings to her work. Her children, who witnessed her honored on stage at the Mosaic Awards in front of over 500 community members, now carry with them the lived example of what leadership, sacrifice, and purpose truly mean.
A Shared Mission
At NABA, we believe in building ecosystems that support and elevate leaders like Dr. Truong. Her story reflects our core mission: to empower new Americans in their pursuit of entrepreneurship, workforce participation, and service-driven economic development.
We extend our congratulations to Dr. Vy Truong and the team at Kentucky Pharmacy, and we thank Jewish Family & Career Services (JFCS) for continuing to highlight the contributions of immigrant entrepreneurs across Louisville and the nation.
